Boston in the Golden Age of Spiritualism with Dee Morris: Somerville Reads 2019

October 17, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

‘You know perfectly well…that those who have passed beyond expect to see us happy and smiling; they want to know that we are thinking of them lovingly. The spirits dwelling in this house may be actually suffering because they are aware we are afraid of them.”

The Victorians’ fervent desire to communicate with the departed inspired the writing of The Haunting of Hill House. Seances, mediums, and clairvoyants were popular in the last half of the nineteenth century. Dee Morris, author of ‘Boston in the Golden Age of Spiritualism” will offer a local insight into this fascinating history. Thanks to the Friends of the Somerville Public Library for funding this program.
