Rob Flax CD Release Party at The Burren Backroom
October 14, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$12 – $16
This is the official release party! I’m proud and excited to release my debut album, “Distractible Boy,” at a venue where I played some of my first gigs in Boston. The Burren has a special place in my heart, and I’m honored to share this music with you.
This album is a celebration of my multi-instrumental, multi-disciplinary philosophy, “Continuous Outward Growth In All Directions” (COGIAD). Most of the songs I play all the instruments. A couple feature some special people, and I’m happy to announce there are some special people sharing the stage in this show:
We’ll play the songs from the record, plus much more. Come along for the journey… There are many sights to see (and if anything is shiny, I’ll mention it, probably).
“Rob’s unique blend of ancient and modern brings the violin into the 21st century with a dazzling array of digital technology seamlessly mated to the traditional world of wood, gut, and bone.” —Stuart Rosenberg, WFMT
Multi-instrumentalist Rob Flax describes his music in a concise way: “I play things with strings, I hit stuff, and I sing.” Behind this simple tag line lies a rich depth of genre-bending, from classical and jazz violin to bluegrass fiddle, to blues and rock influences, and beyond. In his “One Man Band” shows, Rob uses a looper pedal and other effects to transform his violin into an entire symphony of sounds. Rob is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he received his master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation, and he currently lives in Boston.
