Union Square Station Associates (US2) announced Monday the four businesses that would receive support through a Technical Assistance Program to help small businesses in anticipation of Union Square development. Cantina La Mexicana, Reliable Market, CrossFit Somerville and Local Supply Company will receive assessments and recommendations from consulting firm Retail Visioning,
“This program will help us grow our business in ways that benefit our community,” said Kim LaFoy, co-owner of Loyal Supply Company in a statement from US2.
The program will advise the businesses in areas like positioning, identity, store design and marketing. They’ll also receive a grant of up to $1,000 each to help implement improvements.
“US2 is pleased to sponsor this valuable program to support local businesses and assist them in taking advantage of the new opportunities presented by Union Square’s revitalization,” said Greg Karczewski, president of US2, in a statement. “We are committed to the growth and prosperity of Union Square’s small business community, and with the neighborhood poised for tremendous progress, employers of every shape and size stand to benefit.”
These four businesses were chosen from a total of ten applicants. To qualify, businesses had to demonstrate a desire to grow their business while also being “a small, independent storefront business that fits the unique character of Union Square.” Another round of funding will be available in the spring. Previous and new applicants will be considered. Find the application here.
