Somerville’s Sean Collier, a 26-year-old MIT police officer, died last night after two men fired shots at him between Vassar and Main streets in Cambridge.
Collier was “a dedicated officer who was extremely well liked by his colleagues and the MIT community,” says MIT police chief John DiFava in a press release.
Before joining the MIT police in January 2012, Collier worked with the Somerville Police Department’s information technology department. “He was an outstanding employee for us,” says Mayor Joseph Curtatone. “I have no doubt he was also an incredible officer for MIT.”
