Sumeida’s Song

Boston Opera Collaborative is proud to present the Boston premiere of Sumeida’s Song, the first opera by up-and-coming composer Mohammed Fairouz. Educated at New England Conservatory and the Curtis Institute, Fairouz is quickly gaining international recognition as one of the most frequently performed, commissioned, and recorded composers of his generation. Since its premiere in 2009, Sumeida’s Song has been collecting accolades from the likes of the New York Times, NPR and OperaNews, where it was recently named one of the twelve best opera recordings of 2013. This dramatic opera tells the story of a young Egyptian student who returns home to face his mother’s desire to avenge his father’s death.

Yuka Hunt Trio

Yuka is a pianist with a love for the compositions of Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans as well as a singer who draws on the Great American Songbook tradition.  She’ll be joined by her husband Joe Hunt on drums, as well as bassist Mike Harrist. Joe is a highly respected veteran drummer whose long resume includes time with such jazz legends as Bill Evans, Stan Getz, and Ornette Coleman, and Mike works with the gypsy jazz group Ameranouche.

When Sebastian’s favorite toy is stolen by the mischievous woodland trickster Crabtree, he must journey into the Magic Forest to find it! With guidance from the enchanting Silver Queen and help from young audience members, Sebastian reclaims his treasured toy and returns home. Join The Playtime Players for an inventive, participatory theatre performance designed especially for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers! We begin with gentle clowning to welcome children to the show and end with hands-on dramatic play games, all accompanied by exciting live music!

Mass Appeal Spring Concert

Mass Appeal was formed in September 2011 by a group of Boston-area women who love to sing. Our a cappella repertoire pulls from hits throughout the ages – current favorites include popular songs by Etta James, Macklemore,  Pentatonix, Sara Bareilles, and more. Mass Appeal has performed at community events, open mics, and local concerts for a wide range of audiences and we are always excited for new opportunities to perform!
