What’s New?: East End Grille is lookin’ good

EastEndGrillelogoThe East End Grille, East Somerville’s swank new restaurant, is turning some heads.

After a highly anticipated pre-opening party on May 29, the self-described classic American bar and grille has been adding some pizzazz to the surrounding area from its perch at 118 Broadway, the space previously occupied by Khoury’s State Spa. “We’ve had a lot of customers saying ‘Thank you – there’s nothing like this in the area,’” says general manager and co-owner Michael Cotter.

Upon buying the property, the new owners gutted the space and put in several new interior features. Michael Bander and his wife Oana, two of the co-owners along with brother Steven Bander and Cotter, designed the entire space to reflect the restaurant’s signature style.

The open kitchen, a major addition, provides a view of chefs at work to create a warm, homey feeling. The buzz of sports games on six large television fills the interior, while the new store front windows allow for people watching while enjoying the warm summer breeze … weather permitting. For more intimate dining, a private room in the back of the restaurant can hold up to three tables and has a separate sound system so that patrons can choose their own musical selection.image

But the most unique element of the space is the use of paneling and shelving. All of the paneling is “reclaimed wood brought up from a barn in Virginia,” adds Cotter. Some of the lumber was also used to line the outside bar, as well as to create an intricate shelving display that competes with the talented bar staff’s passion fruit daiquiri to be the best thing behind the bar.

With such distinct style, this new spot is determined to stand out in the best way possible as it opens up the area for more restaurant business. “This area is developing,” says Cotter. “ I think we’re a little bit ahead of the game,” he continues. “This is an untapped market.”

The East End Grille is located at 118 Broadway in East Somerville.
