Screen shot 2013-07-15 at 3.30.20 PMGet “Hook”ed on free movies at Bloc 11! The chic Union Square cafe will offer free movie screenings weekly, rain or shine, beginning with 1991’s “Hook,” starring Robin Williams and Dustin Hoffman, tonight at 9 p.m. This month’s “Parents Just Don’t Understand” theme continues with “Back to the Future” on Monday, July 22, and “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” on Monday, July 29.

Each film screening will begin at 9 p.m. with food served inside the cafe until 9:30 p.m. In fair weather, movies will be screened in Bloc 11’s courtyard, while in the event of inclement weather, screenings will take place in the restaurant’s back room.

The movie screenings are presented by a team of workers at Bloc 11: Simone Williams, Jen Signor and Rebecca Rotchford. “We’re having some kids movies, but mostly classics,” Williams explains. “Movies that everyone can appreciate regardless of what age,” she adds, noting that screenings won’t include movies rated beyond PG-13.

Williams says that as of now, movie nights are planned to go on until October – “maybe farther depending on [the event’s success].” For more information, check out Bloc 11’s Facebook page.
