The Armory Cafe features live music in an intimate setting, a menu featuring sandwiches, soups, desserts and coffees, and plenty of free parking. Our 5/4 performers:

Rob Laurens is a songwriter’s songwriter. With a keen eye for subtle, understated detail, Rob creates songs whose lyrics resonate like the words of a writer; his often expressing the kind of ideas and complexity of emotions more typically tackled in the work of a poet or novelist. However, his writing is not over-burdened or pretentious. Rather, Rob creates songs that are subtle and insightful, with meanings that deepen with repeated listening. Rob has won the New Folk Award for Songwriting at both the Kerrville Folk Festival (TX) and its sister festival, The Columbia River Festival (WA). He has returned to play the main stage at these and many other festivals, including the Strawberry, High Sierra, and Napa Valley Festivals in California. He tours both east and west coasts, playing such clubs as The Freight & Salvage in Berkeley, California, and Club Passim in Cambridge, Massachusetts. More at https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/roblaurens.

Esther Friedman is a Boston-based acoustic singer and songwriter. She started writing songs in the mid-nineties after moving to Boston, where buskers who braved street corners and T-stops inspired her. In 1998 her song “Moon Over the Water” was included on the benefit compilation CD Respond. The album, and her song, received accolades from Billboard Magazine. In 1999 she released her first CD, Eve’s Lament, produced by John Sonntag of Thunder Pumpkin Records. In 2016 she completed her second record, a concept album called Cult Confessions – her original soundtrack to a true story about a cultic misadventure. She works as an expressive art therapist while performing and song writing as much as humanly possible. More at https://www.reverbnation.com/estherfriedman.

Boston musician Sam Bayer is your literate, exuberant guide to an imaginary world where housewives win the Nobel Prize in physics, poker-playing children gamble over their bedtimes, and metaphorical elephants pirouette in the den, four and a half minutes at a time. His latest studio CD, The Great Indoors, brings 11 gems from his universe to yours. More at sambayer.com.
